Cricket World Cup 1975 Finals Score Board

West Indies beat Australia by 17 runs

Having reached the final unbeaten, the West Indies maintained their winning run with a fine performance in the first World Cup final.
After being put in, they looked in trouble at 50 for three before a partnership between the rapier and the rock changed the game.
Clive Lloyd, after being dropped by Ross Edwards on 26, raced to 50 at a run-a-ball and reached his century off 82 balls, an innings that completely over-shadowed Gary Gilmour's feat of taking five wickets.
And with Rohan Kanhai, who went 11 overs without scoring a run, dropping anchor at the other end, the pair put on 149 to help their side to a respectable 291 for eight.
Australia started well, careering along at four an over for 20 overs, but were undone by some shambolic running between the wickets and some sensational fielding.
Alvin Kallicharran set the standard with a stunning slip catch and then came the run outs. Alan Turner, Greg Chappell, Ian Chappell... the list went on and the wheels slowly but surely came off the Australian charge.
Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thomson put on 41 in six overs for the final wicket but the game was up, with the pair needing 18 off nine balls, when Thomson became the fifth man to be run out.
